A Pequea man was flown by helicopter to Lancaster General Hospital after a two-vehicle collision at about 11 a.m. Saturday at Blue Rock and River roads, Manor Township.
Harry I. Martin Jr., 48, was driving a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup loaded with firewood and Barry R. Reynolds, 45, Lancaster, was driving a 2000 Ford Excursion towing a utility trailer when the two collided, police said.
Martin remains in critical condition. Reynolds was uninjured.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Glen Hostetter said he heard a sound like a gunshot and ran out of his nearby home to find Martin trapped.
Among the responders were firefighters from Highville, Susquehanna and Columbia One, as well as LEMSA, STAT MedEvac and Conestoga EMS.
Man flown to hospital after River Road wreck
•Four people were taken to area hospitals after an accident at 11:23 p.m. Friday in Rapho Township.
State police said Evan M. Heiser, 17, Manheim, was northbound on Mastersonville Road when he drove through a stop sign at Shumaker Road and struck a westbound vehicle driven by 18-year-old Manheim resident Morgan R. Sherick, police said; her car then spun and hit a stop sign.
Sherick suffered a moderate injury and was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, police said.
Heiser was uninjured, according to police, but three occupants of his vehicle were taken to Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center.
•Gina Miller, East Earl, was waiting to turn left into Garden Spot High School around 6 p.m. Friday when her vehicle was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Shawn Redcay, New Holland, police in New Holland said.
Miller's car was towed, and she was transported to Lancaster General Hospital for neck and shoulder pain, police said; Redcay was to be cited for careless driving.
ROBBED AT GUNPOINT: A couple were talking on the front steps of a home in the first block of South Ann Street just after 1 a.m. Friday when they were robbed at gunpoint, police said. The victims told police that a man and woman approached them with a revolver-type handgun and demanded a purse and cash.
The suspect with the gun is described as a black man in his 20s, 6 feet tall, with a medium build and slim nose who appeared to be right-handed. He was wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt and jeans.
The other suspect is described as a black woman in her 20s, 5-foot-6 and heavyset. She was wearing a gray or white hooded sweatshirt with red stripes around the upper arm, jeans and a red baseball cap.
They got away with $36 cash and a brown satchel purse containing ID, credit cards, a black iPhone in a protective case, and a digital camera, police said.
DUI: James David Shirk, 50, of the 400 block of Rife Run Road, was stopped for suspicion of DUI as he was riding his motorcycle at 1:35 a.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of Willow Street Pike, West Lampeter Township police said. DUI charges are pending.
•Scott W. Matchett, 52, Reading, was stopped shortly before midnight Friday as he was driving on Route 30 at Londonvale Road, Paradise Township, and arrested for DUI, state police at Lancaster said.
PUBLIC DRUNKENNESS: Michael Leaman, 30, of Mountville, was cited for careless driving and public drunkenness after an accident about 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Hempfield Hill Road, West Hempfield Township police said.
Leaman was paying attention to his radio rather than his driving when his vehicle left the road, entered a ditch and rolled onto its roof, police said. He was not hurt.
•Lewis Henry Woods III, New Holland, and Travis Lee Diem, East Earl, were found hiding behind a bush to the rear of the Comfort Inn, 624 W. Main St., Earl Township, shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, New Holland police said; they were to be charged with trespassing and public drunkenness.
•Jose A. Soto, 60, Lancaster, was charged with public drunkenness in the 500 block of Union Street at 2:49 a.m. Saturday, police said.
•Alynea M. Volland, 22, Lancaster, was arrested for public drunkenness and outstanding warrants in the 400 block of North Queen Street at 2:24 a.m. Saturday, police said.
•Emiliano Padilla-Melendez, 52, who is homeless, was arrested for public drunkenness in the 200 block of South Water Street at 1:31 a.m. Saturday, police said.
•Louis K. Kinistino, 45, Lancaster, was arrested for public drunkenness after police found him intoxicated in the 500 block of West Lemon Street at 11:12 p.m. Friday, police said.
•Jeffrey M. Kirsch, 38, Lancaster, was arrested for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and harassment after causing a disturbance by yelling profanities in the 400 block of High Street just after 11 p.m. Friday, police said.
•Leon C. Cannon, 46, Lancaster, was arrested for public drunkenness in the first block of East Orange Street just before 11 p.m. Friday, police said.
DRINKING CHARGES: Enrique Ramon-Gonzales, 51, and Jose Perez-Torrez, 33, both of Lancaster, were charged with possession of an open container when police found them in the 100 block of Reiker Avenue with opened beer bottles at 10:40 p.m. Friday, police said.
BURGLARY: The glass front door of a home in the 500 block of New Holland Avenue was shattered sometime before 9:15 a.m. Saturday, police said. About $150 in cash and two cartons of cigarettes were taken, police said.
RETAIL THEFT: Luis Ortiz-Ruiz, 32, Lancaster, was charged with retail theft after he tried to take 20 cans of baby formula worth $234 from Walmart, 2034 Lincoln Highway East, without paying for them at 7:15 p.m. Friday, East Lampeter Township police said.
•Cierra Crisante, 22, and John Labar, 22, both of East Lampeter Township, were charged with retail theft at 5:30 p.m. Friday after they tried to take merchandise worth $94 from Walmart, 2034 Lincoln Highway East, East Lampeter Township police said.
•Regina M. James, 18, Ephrata, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested for retail theft at Park City Center at 5:33 p.m. Friday, police said.
VANDALISM: Someone damaged a mailbox in the 3100 block of North Colebrook Road, Rapho Township, overnight Friday, state police at Ephrata said.
•A window in the 300 block of Pearl Street was shattered by a rock just after 3 p.m. Friday, police said.
•The front windshield and roof of a vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Maple Avenue were damaged with a brick at about 11 a.m. Friday, police said.
WARRANTS: Mark A. Smith, 27, Lancaster, was arrested in the 600 block of Columbia Avenue at 1:46 a.m. Saturday, for eight failure-to-pay warrants and one failure-to-respond warrant, police said.
